Nord C-1 Mod

The last 2 months I’ve been playing a Nord C-1 Combo organ and I am totally in love with it, the sound that is. It’s very versatile and compact and sounds great. The only thing which really sucks is the way it looks. I can’t seem to understand why Clavia creates super cool instruments but wants to distinct itself by creating ugly red wooden casings. So me and my friend Joris with some help from Joerie started to take serious action by modding the Nord C-1 and give it the look which represents how it sounds. Check the pictures for the results.

Hot rodding

Last Monday we processed all our tracks for our new recording through a tape recorder. The beauty of this is that a tape compresses the sound and allows you to record easily up to plus 2dB input. However the RGO takes it to the edge as you can see, we go for +4dB which gives the sound a real bite and makes it gritty and funky. This process is also known as Hot Rodding.

Beatmaker

Today I decided to give the beatmaker application on the iPhone a try. Beatmaker is a sequencer which allows you to load a sample kit and create songs on the go. Next to that it also features a 2 channel fx processor and sample editor, all on a freakin phone. It costs 16 euro which by App store standards is not the cheapest app. But nothing said this application is well spend. If you are a musician like I am and have boring public transport rides every day, you can really check your musical ideas. It comes preloaded with tons of samples and you can also download a mac/win app to sync sample content to and from your computer. This I’d by far one off the coolest mobile apps I have seen.

By the way if you are interested in serious ear training, Karajan is a superb tool fir that. No I don’t regret buying an iPhone.

Here it is. After much thinking I have decided to buy a Nord C 1. I still love my vintage L 100 but this thing travels much easier especialy in airplanes. Beside that it sounds amazing. But why must it be so ugly red?
I love it!

The Yes Men

Today I came back late from a visit from Edinburgh from my work. I noticed a few days earlier the VPRO would air the documentary about the Yes Men. Luckily I made it home in time to watch a big piece of it. I never heard of them and I think these guys are briljant!

In 1996, Andy Bichlbaum made a splash by programming kissing, swimsuit-clad men into 80,000 copies of an action video game. When the two met, a collaboration was born. In 1999, they created a Web site parodying that of the World Trade Organization (WTO).Though the WTO denounced the spoof site, and though its creators felt the satire was self-evident, legitimate speaking invitations began arriving by e-mail. Undaunted, the Yes Men donned thrift-store suits and went where they’d been asked, posing as WTO spokemen and making outrageously callous statements. Their audiences were unfazed, prompting the Yes Men to raise the stakes again and again.

The documentary is about this journey of them. But more importantly the Yes Men are spreading the important message about why our existence should be based on humanity in stead of an amoral system focusing on making the powerful corporations more powerful, the richer more rich and the poor, even porer.

The Waldseem üller map, Universalis Cosmographia, is a wall map of the world drawn by German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller and originally published in April 1507. It was one of the first maps to chart latitude and longitude precisely, and was the first map to use the name “America”.

I decided to change my blog back to english again. Reason for this is that I know a lot off people who are speaking English. Also some of my co-workers would like to read my blog and they also happen to communicate in English. So without any further delay, here is the first post in English. I will do my best to keep spelling errors to a minimum but please be patient Poems however will still be in dutch because this is my native language. There is nothing more powerful then expressing yourself in your mother tongue.

Heerlijk

Heerlijk! Na een wel bewogen klein jaartje eindelijk vakantie! Dit is de eerste keer dat ik mijn ouders in Bonaire bezoek sinds ze daar oktober 2006 naar toe zijn verhuisd. Een mooi huisje met uitzicht over de caribische zee, elke dag snorkelen tussen het mooie koraal. Wat wil een mens nog meer Op het moment zijn ze naar een intro gesprek voor papiamento lessen dus ik dacht gaat laat ik mijn blog weer eens opzoeken. Ik vraag me eigenlijk wel eens af waarom ik er 1 heb. Ik schrijf er nooit op en als ik er iets schrijf zijn het vaak dingen voor mezelf. Ik denk ooit dat ik het blog misschien een keer ophef of hem meer als een dagboek ga benaderen… ach ik weet niet, lekker belangrijk zal ik maar zeggen. Morgen ga ik een begin maken aan mijn PADI Advanced duikcertificaat. Ik heb er erg veel zin in om weer lekker af te dalen in de deep blue. Vanavond lekker eten bij Konitiki en naar live muziek luisteren en heel misschien vanavond nog naar een Jam sessie in Little Havana. Eens effe kijken of hier ook gefunked wordt. Want mijn missie deze vakantie is , afgezien van relaxen, om met de RGO een Caribean tour te doen. Volgens mij houden de mensen hier wel van groove muziek. Ik zie het al voor mij, eerst een paar gigs op bonaire, dan Curacao en Aruba, wie weet.

Zo ik ga nu weer lekker op het terras zitten chillen met een cool drankje of misschien lekker een beetje piano spelen met uitzicht op de zee, HEERLIJK!
